INDIANOLA, Iowa--The Faith track and field teams faced stiff winds and even stiffer competition last Friday at the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola—the second-to-last meet of the regular season.
The event is, annually, the largest meet of the season for the Eagles, with several Division 1 schools in attendance due to the Drake Relays which occur simultaneously. Despite the higher level of competition, Coach Sauser was pleased with the overall performance of his team, highlighted by several fine, individual performances:
Evan McKinney had a breakout performance in the 400-meter, running a new personal best of 55.85, improving his personal best time by almost two full seconds.
Ryan Hughes has improved each week of the season, setting a new personal best each week in the 1,500-meter run. On Friday, Hughes set a new best time for the fifth week in a row with a time of 4:42.73.
Jacob Kirkwood did not compete in the shot put last week, as he attempts to recover from an injury to his throwing hand. He was able to participate in the discus though, finishing 9th.
Tanner Van Beek continued his fine season with a sixth-place performance in the javelin throw.
For the ladies, Laura Christensen and Abbie Blomberg narrowly missed out on running new personal best times. Christensen was .03 off of her career-best time in the 100-meter and Blomberg was .54 seconds off a personal best time in the 800-meter. Both ran good races, according to Coach Sauser.
The Eagles participate in their last meet of the regular season this Saturday at Loras College in Dubuque.
