Young Squad Opens Season With Tough Opponent

The Faith men's soccer team opened it season against #5 Providence University College (Manitoba, Canada).  The Eagles lack of experience with nine new starters led to number of early mistakes as they failed to mark up on and gave up goals on two early crosses.  Providence continued to dominate possession and scoring opportunities as they were able to capitalize on several more scoring opportunities including a penalty kick which gave them a a 5-0 halftime lead.  The Eagles were able to regroup and focus on defending in the second half.  They kept Providence off the scoreboard through a majority of the second half before a deflected shot was able to find it's way past goalkeeper Jason Scheps.  In the final minutes Providence was able capitalize off one final defensive let down to end the match at 7-0.

"If we are able to improve as much throughout this upcoming week of practice as we did between the first and second halves, we should have a much better showing this week when we play another highly ranked team," said Coach Backous.  The Eagles travel to Manhattan, KS to take on #3 Manhattan Christian College in their first conference match of the season. That game will be on Friday, and will kick off at 4 PM.
