The Eagle men opened up the 2014 MCC Men's Soccer Tournament this past Thursday with a convincing 5-0 victory over Central Christian College of the Bible. Faith is now 11-3-1 on the year. The win puts them in the semi-final match on Friday, October 24, at 2:00 PM vs. Manhattan Christian College. The teams tied in their only match of the season in early September.
The Eagles put pressure on the Sainst defense from the start, and 10 minutes in, freshman Josh Bray, scored his first goal of what was to be a record setting day. The game remained a 1-0 lead for Faith for the next 20 minutes, before Bray again found the back of the net to push the lead to 2-0. Bray was assisted by Joseph Frerichs on the goal, and it was Frerichs who gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead seven minutes later when he scored off an assist from Caleb Acree. Faith held that 3-0 margin at the half. Faith outshot CCCB 15-6 in the first half.
Bray quickly picked up where he left off, recording his first collegiate career hat trick with his third goal two minutes into the second half. Frerichs recorded the assist on that goal as well. Eight minutes later, Bray lit up the net again, this time unassisted, for his fourth goal of the game, giving the Eagles a 5-0 margin. Faith cruised from there and keeper David Levy recorded his fourth shut out of the season as the Eagles pushed their win streak to five.
Faith out shot CCCB 25-7 on the afternoon. The Eagles will look to advance to the Conference Tournament Championship tomorrow at 2 PM, with that semifinal match up against Manhattan Christian. A win would place them in the championship at 3:00 PM on Saturday. A loss would send them to the third place match at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
