The Eagle men persevered through a rain soaked afternoon this past Friday to play Eureka College to a 1-1 draw. Faith moved to 2-1-1 on the young season with the tie.
It was raining from the start and continued to build throughout the game. Both teams traded chances throughout the first half but neither team was able to find the back of the net. At half due to the worsening conditions it was agreed by the coaches and referees to try and play to the 70th minute so that the game would count, but then call the game at that point if the weather and field conditions had not improved.
It became a struggle for both teams to advance the ball throughout the second half due to all the water. Faith took advantage of the poor conditions though as Chase Clark fired a shot that the Eureka keeper was unable to handle and it gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead. However, with under three minutes left before the game reached the 70th minute, Eureka responded with a ball crossed in across the goal and headed into the net. Minutes later the game was called as a result of all the standing water and the field becoming mostly unplayable. Coach Sauser commented, "While it was disappointing for the team to concede a goal late like that, the guys battled through what were extremely unique conditions and kept focus to come away with a draw."
Faith will continue on the road Saturday with a game at Lincoln Christian College at 12pm.
