Eagle Track Squad Continues Improvement
Two members of the Eagles track team competed in the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake Stadium (Des Moines, IA) Saturday, April 13th. Derek Wilcox ran a season best 12.91 in the 100m as he came from behind to take third in his heat, Elizabeth Hemsworth competed in the 100m dash where she was able to quickly close on the competition and nearly overtook her entire heat in the final 20 meters. She finished second in her heat and 24th overall. She was also able to compete in her strongest event, the 400m dash. Elizabeth was able start strong as she overtook the runner in the lane next to her in the first 15 meters and carried the lead through the halfway point of the race. Strong competitors from Iowa State and UNI were able to overtake her, but the pace of the heat was able to help improve her national qualifying time to 59.81 as she finished 15th overall. The entire Eagles track team will compete this weekend in Pella, IA at the Central College Open.
