Track Team Finishes Regular Season Strong
The Eagles track team finished the regular season with several impressive performances. Saturday, April 20th, they traveled to Pella, IA to compete in the Central College Open. Freshman Kevin England was able win his heats of the 1,500m and 3000m while fellow freshman Elizabeth Hemsworth placed third in the 400m and qualified for nationals in the 200m dash with a school record 26.89. Freshman Hannah Nichols was able to come from behind in the 800m to overtake several runners in the final stretch for a season best performance.
Friday, April 26th, the Eagles traveled to Indianola, IA (Simpson College) to compete in the Kip Janvrin Open. The event was highlighted by season best performances by Cooper Rodman in the 800m and 1,500m, Derek Wilcox in the 100m and 200m, Kevin England in the 1,500m and 5,000m, and Jonathan Dupea in the 5,000. England and Dupea were both able to run personal bests by well over a minute each in the 5,000m. Elizabeth Hemsworth took second in her heats of the 100m and 200m and fifth overall in the 400m. She was able to qualify for nationals in the 100m with a time of 13.34. Over the course of the season Hemsworth was able to qualify for the NCCAA National Track Meet in Joliet, IL May 3-4 in the 100m, 200m, and 400m dashes.
