The Lady Eagles soccer team hit the road this past weekend for games with Robert Morris - Lake County and Robert Morris - Peoria. Faith came out on top in Friday's game at Lake Count, winning 4-1, but came up short against Peoria, falling 1-0. Faith had earlier defeated Peoria 2-1 in double overtime. The weekend split puts the Eagles at 4-6-0 for the year.
Friday's contest was a cold, windy affair, although the field was a beautiful turf field, a first time experience for many of the Lady Eagles. Faith got going early, as Kirsten Passwaters scored on a breakaway three minutes into the game for the quick 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later Elizabeth Hemsworth cracked the Lake County defense off an assist from Jessie LaFleur to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Lake County responded, ten minutes later with their own offensive attack as they used the strong wind to curl the ball over the Eagles keeper and into the back of the net to pull within one. Faith quickly responded, however, as Passwaters again broke free to give Faith a 3-1 halftime lead. The second half continued with Faith attacking consistently and gaining scoring opportunities, but couldn't capitalize. Faith was awarded at penalty kick, late in the half and Stephanie Carleton put the ball into the back of the net to give Faith their final 4-1 tally.
On Saturday Faith faced Peoria looking for the season sweep after defeating Robert Morris 2-1 earlier in the year. Peoria had added a good center midfielder since their trip to Ankeny, and the weather again was cold and windy, making for a tough environment. Faith seemed sluggish throughout the game but was able to hold Peoria at bay for the first half, as the game was tied 0-0 at the break. The game continue the same way for the first 15 minutes of the second half before Peoria was abel to gain a breakaway and score what would prove to be the game winner. Faith responded by creating some good scoring opportunities, but couldn't capitalize, falling 1-0.
