The Faith women's volleyball team closed out the home portion of their season this past Tuesday with a game versus 8th ranked Grace University. Faith had fallen to Grace in Omaha earlier this year 1-3. The Lady Eagles played a scrappy first and third game but ultimately could not overcome the Royals, falling in three sets. Faith ends the regular season with a winning record at 15-11.
Faith came out strong in game one, pushing Grace to the limit. The game was close the entire way, and needed "extra time" to be decided. Faith led 25-24 with a chance to win, but couldn't finish. The game went back and forth before Grace was able to take the game 29-27. Having spent a lot of energy battling in game one, the Eagles struggled in game two, falling 25-11, but found renewed strength entering game three. Faith got down early, but mounted a great comeback to tie the game, making for an exciting final few points. Faith took the lead at 24-23 and looked poised to take the game, but Grace was able to tie the game up at 24 apiece. Faith would tie the game again at 25, but were unable to regain the lead, as Grace closed out the game and the match with a 27-25 win. The Eagles had a balanced attack, with Senior Ariel Dicks leading the charge with nine kills. Jenna Bean and Julia Bray added seven kills each, while JoJo Hodak contributed six. Senior libero Rikki Powell had another stellar performance in the back row, recording 22 digs, while setter Stephanie Knupp had 33 assists.
Faith now enters post-season play. First up is a trip to Haviland, KS, for the Midwest Christian College Conference (MCCC). Faith enters the tournament as the #3 seed and will open play against 6th seeded Calvary Bible College on Friday, October 18th. Depending on the outcome of that game, the Eagles will play again Friday evening at either 4:00 PM or 6:00 PM. Faith will conclude MCCC tournament play on Saturday.
Next week the Eagles will travel to Otterburne, Manitoba, Canada for the NCCAA II North Central Regional tournament hosted by Providence University College. Faith enters the tournament as the #3 seed and will face #2 Trinity Bible College in the first game of the double elimination tournament.
