Eagles Host 2017 Spikefest Tournament

Faith was host of the annual Spikefest Volleyball Tournament this past weekend. After comfortably winning both matches on Friday, the Lady Eagles were unable to overcome the NCCAA national teams of Randall University and Maranatha Baptist University, and finished the tournament 2-2.

Faith started off the tournament with a strong win over Ozark Christian College, defeating the Ambassadors in straight sets. The Lady Eagles would then turn around for their second match later that night against Oak Hills Christian College. Faith would handle this game just as easily as their first, beating the Wolfpack 3-0.

The Lady Eagles knew their competition for Saturday's games would be much more difficult than what they had previously faced. They would face off with Randall University, the #4 ranked team at the 2016 NCCAA Championship, to earn a spot in the Spikefest Championship. Faith stayed close with Randall at the beginning of each set, but could not keep Randall from pulling away late in sets. Randall would take the match 3-0 over the Eagles, which sent Faith to the third-place game against back-to-back NCCAA National Champions Maranatha Baptist University.

The Eagles struggled with serve receive throughout the match, which limited their opportunities to create offense and gave Maranatha a commanding lead. The Sabercats swept the sets 3-0, ending the Eagles tournament record at 2-2.

Freshman Bekah Smith was named to the 2017 Spikefest All-Tournament team. Bekah finished the tournament with 24 kills and 8 blocks.

Faith is back on the court Tuesday, September 5, when they will host Union College (Lincoln, NE) at 6 PM.
