Eagles Split Road Matches

Eagles Split Road Matches

The Faith volleyball team split MCCC conference matches this past weekend. The Eagles defeated Barclay College (Haviland, KS) 3-0 on Friday only to lose a tough match on Saturday to Manhattan Christian College (Manhattan, KS) 3-1.

Faith had little difficulty in the Barclay match, winning by large margins in each set. "We caught Barclay in an unusual night. They have been playing well and improved their play. It was a good way to get our weekend started." remarked Coach Lanny Nihart.

Faith then took on the Thunder of Manhattan Christian. The Eagles took set one by the score of 28-26. "It was exciting to win a close set with opportunity play.  We showed resiliency, which had been missing during other matches." The Eagles carried the momentum to a 23-21 lead in set two. But two consecutive net calls and two kills gave the Thunder the set win 25-23.

The Eagles struggled in set three losing 25-17. However, they were determined to remain competitive in set four, taking early leads only to watch Manhattan execute in the later stage and take the set and match win at 25-21. "We keep learning how to win. If we are willing to continue to apply our lessons it will produce positive results during playoffs" noted Coach Nihart.

Faith was led by freshmen Bekah Smith with 15 kills and Abby Booth contributing 13 kills and 7 digs. The Eagles will now turn their attention to non-conference matches at home this week against Union College (Lincoln, NE) on Tuesday and Grinnell College (Grinnell, IA) Thursday night. The Eagles finish out the week traveling to Michigan to participate in a triangular matches at Grace Bible College (Grand Rapid, MI).
