Cross Country Battles Through Soggy Course

The Faith Cross Country team headed to Grinnell Saturday morning to run on the beautiful Grinnell Golf & Country Club course.  The weather was a perfect 64 degrees at race time.  The previous days rain had made the course soggy in many areas, making it a muddy event, which was somewhat hard on the fairways.

There were 19 teams in attendance, some with over 60 runners, making this one of our largest races of the season with hundreds of runners.  It was fun to watch the sea of runners flying down the hill from the massive starting line, trying to get in a good position before settling into their race pace.  The sophomore women were led by Wendy Busenitz in the 6K race, followed by Taylor Ballard and Kaitlyn Peters.  This was the first 6K event of the season, and everyone ran hard despite the mud.  Kaitlyn finished just seconds after Taylor, making it easy to cheer them both on to the finish line!  Sophomore Dewey Rapson ran well, with the hills and mud making his time for completing the course slower than he wanted.

We are looking forward to running in Des Moines on Friday evening, and hope to have many fans there to cheer us on!  We will be at Water Works Park for the women's race at 5:00 and the men's at 5:45.  There is rain in the forecast this week, but it is likely to not be as wet as it was last year where we were slogging through water puddles that came up halfway on our shins!  Thank you for your continued prayers!
