The Eagle men pushed their season opening win streak to five this past Tuesday with a win over NAIA Lincoln Christian University. Lincoln came into the game leading the NAIA in scoring, but it was the Eagles who lit up the nets, scoring four goals to win the game 4-2. Lincoln had scored a combined 28 goals in their last three games. Faith is now 5-0-0 on the year.
The Eagles were able to get on the scoreboard first in the 27th minute when Chase Clark dropped a pass to Joseph Frerichs who hit it into the top corner from the edge of the 18 yard box. The Eagles then doubled their lead in the 40th minute when Clark stole the ball and put it past the keeper. The momentum was short lived as Lincoln's star forward, Pablo Espinoza was able to draw multiple defenders before playing it off to an unmarked David Lucas just before halftime.
LCU came out strong in the second half with the help of a 20mph wind at their back. They dominated possession and managed to score off a cross in the 53rd minute to level the game at 2-2. The Eagles responded effectively, managing to regain the lead in the 61st minute as Cole Glanzer found Clark who put in his second of the game. Faith put the game out of reach in the 83rd minute as Clark returned the favor from earlier in the half by setting up Glanzer for the fourth and final goal. Goalkeeper David Levy was credited with six saves in the victory.
The win moves Faith to 5-0 and ranked #4 in the newest NCCAA Division II rankings, their highest ranking in school history. The next match for the Eagles is Saturday, September 19th at 1:00PM as the taking Midwest Christian College Conference (MCCC) opponent St. Louis Christian for Homecoming.
