ANKENY, Iowa—The men's basketball team notched its first win of the season with an impressive 87-78 victory over Trinity Bible College in the opening night of the Faith Classic.
The Eagles were led by Logan Fincham, who had the finest game of his young collegiate career, with a game-high 23 points. Jared Pearson added 17, Jayce Goergen added 16, and freshman Connor Parrish chipped in 10 to round out the double-digit scoring for Faith.
After an early 8-2 deficit, Faith rallied to take a 12-10 lead as Goergen and Fincham both had the hot hand early for the Eagles. The two teams battled evenly for most of the first half, but Faith asserted its will over the final seven minutes, outscoring Trinity 16-6 to take a 10-point lead into the locker room at halftime.
Faith was in control most of the second half, holding the Lions to 1-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc. Faith's free throw shooting sealed the victory as the Eagles knocked down 23-of-29 from the charity stripe in the second half to secure the win. Fincham was 12-of-14 from the line in the game.
On Saturday, the Eagles faced a tough North Central squad, falling to the Rams, 87-54. North Central used its significant height differential to its advantage, outscoring the Eagles 50-18 in the paint. Faith struggled to protect the basketball as well, turning the ball over 20 times, which led to 24 points off of turnovers for the Rams.
The Eagles sit at 1-2 on the season with a quick turnaround game Monday night at Free Lutheran Bible College in the Twin Cities. Game time is 6 p.m. as Faith looks to even its record to 2-2 heading into Thanksgiving Break.
