Defense and Bench Contributions Carry Eagles to Win Over CCCB
ANKENY, Iowa—Not only have the Faith Eagles found their rhythm on offense in their recent two-game winning streak, they have also cranked up the defensive intensity, holding two straight opponents to less than 70 points. The latest victim of the resurgent Eagles was Central Christian College of the Bible, whom Faith defeated in front of a capacity crowd on Friday night by the score of 79-64.
It was one of the most complete games of the season for the Eagles who have added new parts throughout the year and seem to be molding into a cohesive unit at just the right time as the team enters the stretch run. Coach Fincham got a big boost off the bench with Josh Baucum scoring 15 points in front of many of his former teammates from Grandview Christian High School and Seth Freeman, who was stuck on automatic, canning four three-pointers for 12 big points. The Freeman three-pointers came at critical times, giving the Eagles a big boost in momentum. Andy Hecker was also a key contributor off the bench with seven points and six rebounds.
Defensively, the Eagles locked down CCCB's guards, allowing just one three-point basket in 12 attempts for the Saints. Faith outscored CCCB 18-8 in points off turnovers and shared the ball much better than the Saints with 21 assists on made baskets compared to just seven for CCCB.
Chris Barnette led the way once again in scoring, pumping in 18 points. Jared Pearson continued his fine season adding 14 points and 8 rebounds. With the victory, Faith improved its record to 9-9 overall, 6-3 in conference play.
Faith has a busy week of basketball home games starting Monday night with a 6 p.m. tip against Free Lutheran Bible College. The Eagles finish the week with two more home games on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Saturday's game is also Senior Day.
