Eagles Tune Up for Regionals with Win Over Union College
ANKENY, Iowa—With a week to go before regional action begins, the Faith Eagles are using this week's games to make some fine tuning adjustments and get their starters some rest. It all came together nicely against Union College as Faith overcame an early deficit and roared back for a 17-point victory.
Coach Fincham gave his reserves the starting nod and the bulk of the playing time as none of the regular starters played more than 20 minutes. Josh Baucum took advantage of the extra time and led the team in scoring with 19 points to go along with his nine rebounds and five assists. Andy Hecker and Jared Conable joined him in the double digit column with 13 points and 11 points.
The Eagles fell into a small hole early as Union built a 10-point lead midway through the first half. Faith finished on a strong note over the final nine minutes, thanks in large part to Jayce Goergen's nine points off the bench. A four minute scoring drought for Union allowed the Eagles to take a 34-33 lead into the locker room.
The second half was all Eagles as Faith outscored Union 42-26. Jared Conable had his finest performance of the season pouring in all 11 of his points in the second half.
With the win, the Eagles have now won three of their last four. One home game remains in the season this Friday as Faith takes on a potent Ecclesia squad at 4 p.m. in the Nettleton Center. The Royals are 9-17 but have faced mostly larger colleges and universities this season. Their last common opponent with Faith was Calvary University—a game that Ecclesia won by 32 points.
