Eagles Find First Win Against Eureka
Ankeny, IA -- Faith women's soccer scored three first half goals on their way to the 4-1 victory over Eureka College.
Juniors Jordyn Frerichs (1 goal) and Eliana Fritz (2 goals) scored their first goals of the season with Emma Boldt (1 goal) rounding out the scoring for the Eagles. Boldt, Frerichs, and Anna Scott recorded Faith's three assists on the day.
The Eagles took some time to settle in against a physical Eureka squad, with neither team finding many opportunities through the first ten minutes. Jordyn Frerichs scored the first goal of the day, and her first of the season, in the 13th minute from a well placed corner kick by Emma Boldt. Ten minutes later, Eliana Fritz put in her first goal of the season after dribbling up the sideline and cruising past all of her defenders for an easy tap-in. Emma Boldt gave the Eagles their third goal with 50 seconds left in the half after shaking her defender for a shot just outside the box. Megan Yuan put in excellent effort in the goal with four first half saves, allowing the Eagles to enter the break up 3-0.
Eureka picked up intensity in the second half, scoring within a minute of kickoff. While the Red Devils stayed on the offensive for most of the second half, that would be the only goal the Eagles would allow on the day. Eliana Fritz scored the final goal of the day in the 64th minute, off a cross from Jordyn Frerichs to Anna Scott, who tapped the ball over to Fritz for the goal. 17 players saw the field for Faith as they soared to their first win of the season.
