Eagles Come up Just Short After Second Half Comeback
Kansas City, MO -- Faith men's basketball started slow, but outscored the Knights in the second half to finish well in their 98-85 loss to Spurgeon on Tuesday.
The Eagles came prepared for the high tempo gameplay the Knights are known for, but while Faith succeeded in navigating their opponent's full court press, they struggled to knock down shots on the other end. Logan Fincham drained two 3 pointers at key moments in the first half to slow down runs, but the Knights would take a 21 point lead into halftime.
Having a chance to rest and make adjustments, the Eagles came out and matched Spurgeon's intensity and marched their way back into the game, trailing by just nine points with 6 minutes left. Quensy Ferguson, Sam Kirkman, and Cade Cooper combined for 36 of the Eagles' 57 second half points, as Faith outscored the Knights by 6 points in the final 20 minutes.
Mason Gorsh led the team in scoring with 16 points, while Asa LaFleur (4 ast, 2 stl) and Cade Cooper (6 stl, 12 pts) brought high energy on both ends of the court to keep the Eagles on track. The Eagles move to 1-1 on the season as they look forward to welcoming Kansas Christian to Ankeny on Saturday.
UP NEXT: Faith men's basketball will compete in an exhibition game at Waldorf on Friday before hosting Kansas Christian on Saturday, November 8th for an NCCAA matchup. Tipoff at Nettleton is set for 2:00 p.m. CT.
