Thursday saw the Eagles face the high-tempo gameplay of the Providence Pilots. In a game that came down to the final possessions, Faith battled through growing pains and came one point shy of their first win of the season.
The Pilots got on the board first, but Faith answered right back with a made three from Emily Franklin. The Eagles went on a 9-0 run to take a quick lead in the first quarter, but several made 3's gave Providence the lead back in the second quarter. The teams traded shots in a game that saw seven ties and seven lead changes, and the Eagles went into halftime leading 27-22. The second half saw a similar trend, as neither team led by more than 6 points. The Pilots saw their biggest quarter in the 3rd, as they scored 19 points to the Eagles 14 and the teams entered the last ten minutes tied 41-41. In the last three minutes the Eagles pulled ahead by six points, but that lead would not keep as Providence once again tied the game with 19 seconds left. Faith had multiple opportunities to score, but could not convert on those and an untimely foul call led to the game-winning free throws for the Pilots.
Faith had a quick turnaround as they faced Trinity on Friday in a game that stayed in favor of the Lions all the way through. The Eagles fixed crucial errors from the previous night, nearly doubling their free throw percentage and cutting down on turnovers, but they faced continued shooting woes in the twelve point loss. Despite working to find their groove, the Eagles continued to play gritty defense all evening and finish with intensity, as players settle into their adjusted roles on the young season.
Katie Costello and Miriam Beenken led the charge for Faith, as both recorded double-doubles in each game. Costello recorded 18 points and 17 rebounds on Thursday, and finished out the week with 20 points and 10 rebounds against Trinity on Friday. Beenken brought home 16 points and 14 rebounds against the Pilots, and was on triple-double watch on Friday with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 steals.
UP NEXT: The Eagles will return to action against FLBC before kicking off Conference play against Manhattan the week following Thanksgiving break. Tipoff against the Conquerors is set for Tuesday, December 2nd at 4:00 p.m. CT.
