Eagles Fight Through Adversity on the Road
Dubuque, IA -- Free throws and missed layups made all the difference on Tuesday, as the Eagles fell to Emmaus in the cross-state battle.
The Dubuque Eagles struck first on Tuesday, scoring on the first possession and building up a large lead to start the quarter. Faith gave themselves plenty of opportunities early on but struggled to convert in the paint, an issue that would plague them the rest of the game. Down 13 halfway through the quarter, Faith went on a 10-2 run over the next five minutes that would bring them back into the game and the Eagles from Ankeny would trail 14-19 after the first frame.
Faith scored the first two baskets of the quarter early, bringing themselves within one point of the lead, but that would not hold as Emmaus went on a scoring surge and took a nine point lead into halftime. Faith cut their deficit in half over the next ten minutes, holding their opponent to nine points in the third. It was a race to the finish as the teams combined for 40 points in the fourth quarter, but Emmaus ultimately came out on top, winning 64-56.
Katie Costello led the team in four different statistical categories with 18 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals. Soleil Ashley added 15 points, 4 assists, and 2 blocks. And Mirelli Fritz rounded out the double-digit scoring with 13 points.
UP NEXT: The Eagles head back to Ankeny for their first of three straight home games, as they host CCCB this Friday, January 23rd. Tipoff against the Saints will take place in Nettleton at 4:00 p.m. CT.
