Eagles Win Their Second Straight
Ankeny, IA -- Faith women's basketball earned their second straight win, and their third of the season, spurred on by a fourth quarter scoring surge against Union Adventist University.
The Eagles came off of their weekend Conference win against CCCB with high hopes to continue piecing together wins as they enter the heart of MCCC play later this month.
Both the Eagles and the visiting Warriors struggled to hit shots in the first half, as the teams entered the half tied at 17 points apiece. Faith forced 11 turnovers and brought down nine offensive rebounds in the first half. The Eagles trailed by as many as seven points, but their defense kept them in the game as the offense worked through the scoring drought.
The second half shifted in favor of Faith, as the Eagles continued to let their defense lead the way. Katie Costello and Soleil Ashley scored 8 of the team's 10 points in the third quarter, and Ellie Cooper scored her first career points to help send the teams into the final frame tied 27-27. The fourth quarter was all Faith, as the Eagles found their offensive rythym and outscored Union 18-3 on their way to the 45-30 victory.
Katie Costello stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals in the win. Soleil Ashley added 9 points, and Mirelli Fritz brought down 10 rebounds, four of those coming on the offensive end.
