Eagles Fall in Semester Opener on the Road
Overland Park, KS -- Defensive woes led to a slow finish for the Eagles in their first game back after Christmas break.
Faith was well-matched to open the semester in their nonconference road tilt against NCCAA D1 Kansas Christian. The teams battled for the first win of 2026 in a game that saw 8 lead changes and an almost even first three quarters leading up to the final ten minutes.
Katie Costello led the charge with a 19 point, 10 rebound double-double in Thursday's game. Soleil Ashley added 14 points, and Kayla Stephens dished out 6 of the team's 12 assists. Stephens opened scoring for the Eagles one minute in, as Soleil Ashley gained an advantage off the dribble and kicked the ball out for a 3. The Eagles scored at ease throughout the quarter, but Kansas Christian would take the 3 point advantage into the second quarter. The teams played evenly through halftime, and the Falcons led 30-27 at the break.
Faith made a third quarter run to cut their deficit to one point heading into the final frame, as Costello led the charge with 7 third quarter points. In an unfortunate turn of events, the game swung heavily in the favor of the home Falcons, who outscored the Eagles 23-11 in the final frame and despite their best efforts, the Eagles dropped their semester-opener 51-64.
