Volleyball Sees Best Start to a Season Since 2013
Ankeny, IA -- Faith volleyball earned their 5th win of the season, 3-0 over Union with set scores of 25-19, 25-9, 25-22.
The Eagles recorded 42 kills and 14 service aces in the match, led by Codie Wirges (10 kills, 5 aces) and Morgan Fincham (7 kills, 2 aces). The trio of Maddie Hofmann, Qwynn Nerem, and Victoria Nerem combined for 27 of the team's 41 digs, and Qwynn along with Reagan McPeek accounted for 31 of the Eagles 37 assists.
Faith once again took time to find their rythym in the first set, trailing 7-2 before a well timed timeout gave the team a chance to regroup. From there the Eagles dug their way back into the game, swapping points until they took an eventual 17-16 lead that they would not give back up. The Eagles ended the set with three quick kills and the final point coming in the form of an ace from McPeek.
Set two was all Faith as they only allowed 9 points from their opponent. Ellie Cooper started the set with three of her 6 kills on the day, and two heroic dives from Alyssa Stephens ended in back to back kills to end the set.
The third set started in favor of the warriors, as they once again jumped out to a five point lead before the Eagles started to dig back into the game. Six Eagles recorded kills in the set, led by Morgan Fincham's 5. Codie Wirges scored 4 of the team's last 5 points, including an ace to end the match.
The Eagles are now 5-2 on the season as they approach a stretch where they'll face four nationally ranked teams in their next five games. This marks the best start to a season for Faith volleyball since 2013, when the Eagles started out 8-2.
