Volleyball Sweeps on Senior Day
Ankeny, IA -- Faith women's volleyball hosted a back and forth match against Spurgeon on Friday, taking the senior day sweep, 25-11, 27-25, 25-22.
The Eagles start on a tear, jumping to a quick 11-2 lead, eight of those coming from well placed kills from Codie Wirges (5), Victoria Nerem (2) and Morgan Fincham (1). Faith kept rolling straight through teh first set and walked away with a decisive 25-11 victory and the 1-0 lead in the match.
The next two sets started eerily similar to each other, as Spurgeon would jump to quick leads, but the Eagles dug deep and were able to dig all the way out on their way to the straight set victory over the knights.
Codie Wirges led the charge offensively with 12 kills, while Morgan Fincham added seven. Ellie Cooper added eight kills and two blocks, and Victoria Nerem, Qwynn Nerem, and Maddie Hofmann combined for 37 of the team's 63 digs.
The Eagles saw a huge crowd come out as they celebrated their two seniors, Belle Wirges and Reagan McPeek after the match. Belle has played in 112 matches and accumulated 545 kills, 698 digs, and 148 blocks in her time as an Eagle. Reagan has played in 84 matches and recorded 1592 assists, 595 digs, and 99 service aces. Both seniors have been to the NCCAA National tournament two times so far and are hopeful for a third trip this November.
