Eagles Fall to the Thunder in the Top 10 Match
Ankeny, IA -- Faith volleyball came out strong and won their first set before falling to #1 Manhattan in four.
The Eagles put on a show on Saturday, coming into their match after receiving their first top ten ranking of the season as #6. In their eighth match of the year, Faith has had a chance to settle into their lineup and rotations, and the Eagles came into the day motivated to see where they stood against the MCCC powerhouse.
Faith came out on a tear, winning the first set 25-23. The Eagles seemed to have a solid hold on the first set, responding to every challenge from their opponent and keeping the lead when it mattered.
Faith kept their momentum rolling until partway through the second set, when the Thunder seemed to find momentum and rolled on to win the next three sets. Faith made a strong push in the fourth, going point for point with Manhattan, but eventually lost the set 18-25.
Codie Wirges led the Eagles with 17 kills on the day, and Qwynn Nerem recorded 29 assists. Codie Wirges and Victoria Nerem combined for 25 digs, and the Eagles recorded 7 blocks as a team.
Faith is now 5-3 on the season as they enter a 5 match week against strong opponents.
