Eagles Earn One Point in Draw With Alice Lloyd
Kissimmee, FL -- For the second match in a row the Eagles scored their equalizer in the 89th minute, leading to the draw and one point after day one of Pool Play.
Playing in their first national tournament since 2015, Faith men's soccer looked every bit as if they belonged. The Eagles started fast and settled into the match quickly, keeping possession for mcuh of the first several minutes of play, testing the waters with a couple of offensive pushes early. Despite their early advances, Faith would not find a breakthrough until the ninth minute of play when Austin Lundberg was awarded a PK after getting fouled in the box. The freshman midfielder improved to 3/3 in PK attempts on the year as he chipped it in with ease and put Faith on the board first. The Eagles held their lead through the rest of the half and entered the break up 1-0.
Alice Lloyd would strike next, forcing the defense out of shape and crossing the ball to a well placed strike from their team's leading scorer in the 61st minute. The opposing Eagles would score again 12 minutes later as they walked the ball down the middle of the field and shook the defense for the 2-1 advantage in the match. The Eagles kept fighting and placed three more shots just off goal over the next 11 minutes. With seven minutes to go in the match, Zeke Denger earned his third and final save of the night in a crucial moment to keep the deficit to one goal.
To the casual onlooker the game seemed all but over, but to the team who willed their way to a win just five days before, there was always just enough time. Zachary Choi scored the equalizer with 52 seconds to go, keeping the Eagles in the middle of their Pool and earning his team one point to start the week.
